Genesis 1
In the beginning…God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.
Skipping to the part where we(humanity) come in.
Genesis 2-7
And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living soul.
Formed man
The plurality of the phrasing here suggest humanity is a singular entity and not one that differentiates son from father, or daughter from mother. God didn’t form a man, He formed “man” or all of humanity within one creation moment.
With this view point we can see the love God showed towards humanity in these few words. Even in the beginning He saw us and what would happen and still decided to give humanity a chance. This suggest we are all viewed by God as a single entity.
Why is this important?
If we are viewed as a singular entity, humanity can be destroyed by our lineage but also restored by it.
Breath of Life
Life was breathed into humanity and at that moment humanity began. We are nothing without that breath. We are nothing without God. Without God there would be no beginning for humanity. The source of our life is God.
How does that knowledge affect us?
If God is our source then we can begin to understand the way humanity was originally meant to live. Disconnection from the source, changes the way we live. It changes who we rely on for life.
Living Soul
A living soul is the way we were originally created. We were not created to die but to live forever. There is something in humanity that seems to make us feel like we won’t die.
- This idea suggests there is a possibility of a dead soul.
We think we will live forever because we were made to.
